R. Sivarasa, 52, is a leading Malaysian lawyer and human rights activist. He is vice-president of Parti KeADILan Rakyat, and is a co-founder of Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM), Malaysia’s foremost human rights organisation.
Sivarasa is married to Anne James, a respected teacher, education advocate and award-winning theatre and film actress.
Sivarasa graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Genetics from Universiti Malaya, and studied Law at Oxford University under the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. He brings with him over 20 years of experience in defending and promoting public interest, human rights and civil liberties issues in Malaysia.
His unwavering and relentless spirit for justice has inspired scores of young people to be involved in the human rights struggle, and to put service above self.
On March 8, 2008, Siva was elected the Member of Parliament for the constituency of Subang in Selangor with a majority of 6,709 votes.
